Holistic Facial Rejuvenation

Facial Rejuvenation

Are you ready for your skin to radiate and glow naturally without the use of harsh chemical peels, injections or surgery? Mei Rong (to beautify oneself) also known as facial rejuvenation or cosmetic acupuncture, is an ancient beauty technique dating back to the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279AD). Originally reserved for the Empress and her concubines, cosmetic acupuncture is now used around the world as a natural and non-toxic way to achieve beauty from the inside out.

How does cosmetic acupuncture work?

Hair fine needles are inserted at the level of the dermis. This creates a microscopic wound causing your body to increase blood flow to the area. Increased blood flow brings collagen, elastin and other nutrients up to the face and neck. The treatment also encourages your body to produce endorphins, your happy neurotransmitters, leaving you feeling uplifted and relaxed afterwards.

Cosmetic acupuncture helps to:

  • Soften fine lines and wrinkles
  • Decrease the appearance of pores
  • Reduce or eliminate acne
  • Reduce puffiness and dark circles under the eyes
  • Brighten the face
  • Improve skin texture
  • Calm overactive oil glands
  • Moisturize dry skin
  • Lift the face
  • Balance systemic issues

Why choose an acupuncturist to treat your skin?

A good acupuncturist ALWAYS treats your entire system, not just symptoms. This means we do more than just apply products to cover up wrinkles, acne, and/or sagging jowls, we treat the underlying conditions that are causing them. Acupuncturists talk to you about your diet and lifestyle and simple ways you can improve your looks naturally. If needed, we can prescribe herbal remedies, supplements, facial exercises and self massage that can help your skin look it’s very best.

What to expect during your appointment

Dr. Ara’s unique approach to facial rejuvenation starts off right with a cleansing of the décolleté and face using non-comedogenic products made exclusively for you and your skin type. Next you’ll receive both body & facial acupuncture followed by a nourishing mask that leaves your skin as smooth as silk. While the mask is on you get to indulge in a relaxing neck and shoulder massage. As if that wasn’t enough, the treatment is finished with a blend of facial massage, facial cupping and gua sha that will leave you feeling absolutely rejuvenated.

Who should avoid cosmetic acupuncture?

If you've recently had cosmetic procedures it's best to wait at least 4 weeks before receiving acupuncture on the face. Hemophiliacs or those prone to bleeding, persons on blood thinners, taking aspirin, vitamin e, or fish oil daily should not receive cosmetic acupuncture. You should also avoid cosmetic acupuncture if you are pregnant, sunburned on the face, had a recent or current herpes outbreak, have a contagious disease, have a pituitary tumor or Cushing's Disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, are currently suffering from a migraine, lymphedema in the face, prone to infection or have a serious health condition. Please note regular acupuncture may be beneficial for the above conditions.
